Casper and Federica this might be of interest to you, not a long article but there might be some more on the site:

I think you guys will know what I make of the ad! But would be interesting to see everyone elses response. Just in case you can't guess what I think I find it unethical that something thousands of women are victim to can be glamourised to sell clothes.
Apparently Dolce and Gabbana agreed to pull the 2007 ad in Spain because "they are a bit behind with the times" as if glamourising gang rape is so now! :s
But it certainly caused controversy which is exactly what they were after, but at what cost?
What do you guys think?

I did some research and apparently Dolce & Gabbana said in relation to this ad that it was never meant to be controversial and that it represented an erotic dream; a sexual game. Actually I find repugnant the use of a picture suggesting rape in an advertising.
ReplyDeleteWhat I think would be interesting to investigate is whether this ad (and the other of the same genre) are made by men or women. I'm not sure a women would never have such a distasteful idea...
Sadly, I think that the old saying "any publicity is good publicity". They were going for the shock factor and that's what they got. I'm sure they reached out to an audience that would've never even looked twice at their adverts before, just because of the controversy. I don't think it is the right way to reach a different audience, but it may be an easy way.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think it's a shame that sex and violence are used so often as an easy route to get attention. It's plain lazy!!
