Tom Ford once called Richardson his "favorite photographer to work with," adding, “You can’t scare him. You can’t scandalize him."

Recording from 15/03/10 Skype Call
Hey guys,
Here is the link to the recording from our Skype conference call on March 15th. It's quite large so I would just stream it through your web browser, but it's up to.

Shocking advertising

If you want to make a campaign that denounces abuses and you just say “stop traffic of human being”, probably your message won’t be effective. If you say “stop traffic of human being” and use a strong picture that horrify your audience, then maybe people will pay attention to what you’re saying. If it is the only way to change things, then welcome shocking images.
What I am more sceptic about is the involvement of children in these social campaigns, as for example the NHS campaign against smoking. I really think that children could be scared of the ad, moreover I don’t think it is fair to use them as an intermediary of the message. It’s not children that should be scared of consequences of smoking, but smokers.
What do you think about that? Have a look at the ad.
'Friction Marketing'
Casper and Federica this might be of interest to you, not a long article but there might be some more on the site:
http://www.frictionmarketer.com/dolce-and-gabban-rape-and-marketing/
I think you guys will know what I make of the ad! But would be interesting to see everyone elses response. Just in case you can't guess what I think I find it unethical that something thousands of women are victim to can be glamourised to sell clothes.
Apparently Dolce and Gabbana agreed to pull the 2007 ad in Spain because "they are a bit behind with the times" as if glamourising gang rape is so now! :s
But it certainly caused controversy which is exactly what they were after, but at what cost?

Benetton campaigns

When I was looking for some images for my essay I found this page about all Benetton campaigns (Casper it could be interesting for your essay as well). Benetton is an italian fashion brand that has created controversy all around the world for its advertising. These are not related to any product sold by Benetton and consist of images of human suffering, violence, illness, or of images with political, religious or sexual subjects. The brand assert that the aim of this campaigns is to take a position, to represent real world instead of factitious one and to make people become more aware of social issues. Detractors reply that it is shameful to use human suffering in order to sell jumpers. Whatever your opinion is have a look to the Benetton's campaigns page.
